Let’s Use the Positive to fuel the “Keep Going”

On yesterdays 3 Friends & 1 Chair podcast, I mentioned the Shannon Watts from Moms Demand Action mentioned in an Instagram post that hundreds of gun laws have been passed in the past decade.

That number turns out to be greater than 500! Looking at the Giffords Law Center to Prevent Gun Violence website, here are the stats since the Sandy Hook Shooting in 2012 which killed 26 people:

In 2013 there were 48 new gun laws passed

By 2014 there were 83 total new gun laws passed (+35 from previous year)

By 2015 there were 104 total new gun laws passed (+21 from previous year )

By 2016 there were 141 total new gun laws passed (+37 from previous year )

By 2017 there were 170 total new gun laws passed (+29 from previous year )

By 2018 there were 245 total new gun laws passed (+75 from previous year )

By 2019 there were 323 total new gun laws passed (+78 from previous year)

By 2020 there were 380 total new gun laws passed (+57 from previous year )

By 2021 there were 455 total new gun laws passed (+75 from previous year )

By 2022 there were 544 total new guns laws passed (+89 from previous year )

It appears that not letting up and getting louder and louder with more and more people joining the fight that more laws are getting passed each year over time (remember in 2020 we had COVID interruptions).

So please, stop feeling hopeless. Stop thinking there is nothing you can do. Join in the momentum! Either help those getting it done by volunteering or donate money to them. All they need is a little more help. It’s going to get done. Let’s help make it get done sooner than later
