Love, Life, & Elephants. Dame Daphne Sheldrick.

Sensing my sadness, David gently reminded me that every wild orphan was ’on loan’ and could never ‘belong’ to us. We were merely custodians for the period that they were dependent and needed our help, but after that their place and quality of life lay not in semi-captivity for the benefit of humans, but with their wild kin. (Excerpts from Love, life & Elephants).

What an extraordinary life Dame Daphne had. Her deepest love of raising orphan wild animals and reuniting them with their wild kin is the perfect example of kindness. Being raised in much of the same environment her life brought back many nostalgic memories. Love, Life and Elephants is a must read.
