My Interpretation of ON/OFF

The concept of an "abstract chaotic on off painting" focuses on the creation of a piece of art that incorporates both chaotic and calm elements through the process of layering. The initial chaotic phase involves the spontaneous application of energetic marks, textures, and colors, often conveying a sense of freedom and lack of control.

The subsequent "on/off" phase involves a deliberate layering process where lighter layers are applied to soften or cover parts of the chaos, revealing moments of negative space and tranquility. This intentional contrast between chaos and calm results in a dynamic and multi-layered composition.

In the context of Parkinson's Disease, the term ON/OFF often refers to the fluctuating nature of symptoms experienced by individuals with the condition. Symptoms such as Dyskinesia and Dystonia can vary in intensity, causing periods of increased movement and then periods of decreased movement or stiffness. The use of ON/OFF in this context highlights the unpredictable nature of Parkinson's symptoms and the need to navigate between moments of chaos and calm in managing the condition.

I have personally faced challenges expressing myself through painting due to DBS, but it has ultimately brought a sense of peace and tranquility to both my mind and body. It has taken some time for me to realize that I can still create art without the chaos of my previous struggles.

I have created artwork depicting my experiences of living with Parkinson's before and after undergoing Deep Brain Stimulation Surgery.
